Spot colour
A spot colour – also called a special or solid colour – is a precisely defined shade from a colour system such as Pantone or RAL. In classic printing it is used as a pre-mixed ink, comparable to a specific tin of paint.
In large-format digital printing, however, we print with the four CMYK inks. A spot colour therefore has to be converted to the closest possible CMYK tone. This works well for most shades, but very saturated, metallic or luminous colours cannot always be reproduced exactly.
To avoid colour surprises: ideally convert spot colours to CMYK yourself before supplying the data, or give us a binding CMYK value.
