Resolution
Resolution describes how finely a raster graphic is built up. It is measured in ppi (pixels per inch). The more pixels per inch, the more detail – and the sharper the print.
In large-format printing the resolution may be lower than for a glossy flyer, because a banner is viewed from several metres away. Proven values (at original size 1:1) are: for large formats over 5 m² at least 35 ppi, for smaller formats under 5 m² at least 70 ppi – up to a maximum of around 120 ppi.
If the file is created at a scale of 1:10, the resolution must be ten times as high so that the same sharpness reaches the finished banner.
